On May 6, the community has the opportunity to unite in a digital way to support local nonprofit organizations.
Give Local 757, a 24-hour online giving event, is organized by the Peninsula Community Foundation to encourage giving in Hampton Roads by helping to raise money for charity groups. The day is part of the larger national giving initiative known as Give Local America.
The Peninsula Community Foundation is a quickly growing philanthropy project that joins other foundations, nonprofit organizations, community leaders, and government officials to address the needs of the community and work to build creative solutions. In 10 years, they have given more than $10 million to assist the community.
“We have a rich history of a giving culture in this community,” said Michael Monteith, the Foundation’s president and CEO in a news release. “Let’s continue this tradition on May 6th by coming together for one day to support our incredible nonprofits in Hampton Roads.”
This new venture allows nonprofit organizations in the Hampton Roads area – including the Historic Triangle – to register to participate in the day of online donation. The program offers an additional $40,000 in prizes and uses social media to drive donors toward causes.
Every registered nonprofit will receive a unique online donation form to share their website and social media to reach their existing audience. The Give Local 757 website and social media will connect new donors to the nonprofits doing the work they are most passionate about.
All donations of $25 or more qualify for the national Give Local America’s pool of matching funds. Groups that garner donations of $50 or more qualify for awards from the prize pool, which include extra cash for the first $757 gift, the donation made closest to 7:57 a.m. and the first nonprofit to reach 757 donations. The organization that receives the highest number of donations will be awarded a grand prize of $7,570. See the full list of rules and prizes here.
After the event, each nonprofit will receive a check for the total amount donated to them and the prizes won — minus a transaction fee. They will also receive the complete database of donors who contributed to them during the event.
By registering, organizations will have access to resources to help them connect on May 6 and well into the future. They will gain access to an online toolkit and free social media training.
