What You’ll Do: Dec. 12-15

W.Y.D2You’ll have a chance to do some shopping this weekend, as well as enjoy an enduring story on film or catch some live music or comedy (or both!).

Film and Live Performance

December is request month for the Williamsburg Regional Library’s Thursday Afternoon Film Series, featuring movies that library users have asked to see. The movies begin at 2 p.m. in the Williamsburg Library Theatre. This week’s film is “Little Women” (1933), based on the classic novel by Louisa May Alcott. It stars Katharine Hepburn as Jo.

Have a laugh at the Comedy Club of Williamsburg this weekend. Matt Baetz and J. Lalonde will perform Friday and Saturday nights, starting at 7:30 p.m. Baetz has appeared on “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” more than 50 times.

Narissa Bond will perform at Aroma’s on Friday night, starting at 8 p.m. Bond’s vocal style has been compared to Joni Mitchell, and she writes songs in genres from traditional folk to jazz and pop. Bond was the 2009 winner of the Hampton Roads Portfolio Awards for best album and best song with her release “Three Words.” Jeremy White will perform on Saturday, also at 8 p.m.

Farmers Markets

The Saturday is a Holiday Market for the Williamsburg Farmers Market in Merchants Square. From 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., shop from local vendors selling produce, baked goods, dessert, plants and gifts. Music will be provided by the US Army Group, Bagpipes by Geoffrey Saur and two William & Mary a cappella groups. Click here for a full list of vendors.

The Toano Farmer’s Market, on the corner of Forge and Richmond roads, is open year-round, opening at 8 a.m. Saturdays. It showcases Bob’s Sausage Company, Rainbow Eggs, Heidi’s Home Grown, plus an array of produce vendors during the year.

The Virginia Legacy Soccer Club will host a bingo night to raise money for its scholarship fund, starting at 5 p.m. tonight. See the Hometown article on the event here.

Learn about weather proofing at The Home Depot on Saturday. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the store is showcasing its products and offering free in-home consultations to help prepare homeowners for the winter months.
