Law School Hosts Students for Discover Law Program
William & Mary Law School students involved in the Law School Admissions Council’s Discover Law Program hosted 45 public high school students Nov. 7. The students were from Achievable Dream, a school in Newport News.
Shukita Massey, assistant commonwealth’s attorney for the City of Hampton, gave the introduction to the event, followed by a first amendment workshop by students from W&M’s Constitutional Conversations program. The groups of high school and law students also discussed law school life.
The Law School Admissions Council and DiscoverLaw.org started the program, providing grant funding to law schools in order to increase diversity in and awareness of the legal profession.
Williamsburg KOA Wins President’s Award
The Williamsburg KOA Campground has been awarded the 2014 KOA President’s Award by Kampgrounds of America, the world’s largest system of family-friendly campgrounds. The award was presented Nov. 21 at KOA’s Annual International Convention in Austin, Texas.
The KOA President’s Award is presented annually to campgrounds that receive high scores in customer service from their campers, and also receive top scores in KOA’s annual Quality Review. The Williamsburg KOA Campground received the award for 2013 and 2012 as well.

Chesapeake Bank President Elected to ABA Board
Jeffrey M. Szyperski, who is the Chairman, President and CEO of Chesapeake Bank, has been elected to the board of directors of the American Bankers Association (ABA). ABA’s board is the association’s governing body between annual conventions and is made up of CEOs from banks of all sizes.
The association provides educational benefits and programs for its members, represents the industry in Washington and speaks on behalf of the industry in the press.
Szyperski has been with Chesapeake Bank since 1990. The bank has markets in Northern Neck, Middle Peninsula and Williamsburg.
New Town Dental Arts Candy Drive Results

Last month, New Town Dental Arts held its 6th annual Halloween Candy Donation Drive. The practice collected more than 700 pounds of candy to send to the troops.
The group that contributed the highest volume was the Matoaka Elementary School PTA, which organized a schoolwide project.
