Join the Alzheimer’s Association on Saturday for an event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.
The Walk to End Alzheimer’s, regionally sponsored by BayPort Credit Union, will take place at Matthew Whaley Elementary School at 301 Scotland St. in Williamsburg. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m.
The event comes just before the beginning of November, which is National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month.
More than just the chance to stretch your legs, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s includes the chance to learn about the disease, its treatment, support services and how to get involved with advocacy. There will also be a ceremony at 9:30 a.m. to honor those affected by Alzheimer’s.
The walk itself begins at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Registration for the event is free, but participants who raise $100 or more will receive a T-shirt. To start a team, or to join an existing one, go to www.alz.org/seva.
The Alzheimer’s Association is a national organization with the goal of eliminating Alzheimer’s disease, which is the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death. They also provide and enhance Alzheimer’s care and support, and promote brain health to reduce the risk of dementia.
