
The Greater Williamsburg Chamber and Tourism Alliance celebrated several local business leaders and residents with awards at its annual membership meeting.
On Sept. 25, members of the Alliance gathered for the meeting at the Williamsburg Lodge, where the awards were presented and the new and outgoing chair were recognized.
In the awards category, six awards were presented:
- Walter Segaloff and Run for the Dream were recognized as the Corporate Citizen of the Year for civic, charitable, education and environmental efforts and contributions.
- John Moorman, director of the Williamsburg Regional Library received the Roll of the Drum Award for service for the community and Alliance.
- OS1 Michael Badami of the Coast Guard Training Center in Yorktown, HM1 Roy Jaquez of the U.S. Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown, Maj. Christopher Fuhriman of U.S. Army at Fort Eustis and GYSgt. Cory Curtis of the Marine Corps Security Force Regiment were recognized as Military Citizens of the Year.
- Michelle Brumfield, who owns BedCrafters by Michelle received the Small-Business Person of the Year award for employee and sales growth, excellent customer service and a positive impact on the community.
- Chris Harris, co-founder of Refuse Ordinary, was recognized as Ambassador of the Year.
- Mike Rock, agent at Michael C. Rock Agency/Nationwide Insurance, was recognized as Membership Star of the Year.
John Hallowell presided over the event in his last evening as chairman; he passed the gavel to the new chairman, Bob Singley, who is the president of RJS & Associates, Inc.
The other officers of the Alliance for the 2013-14 year are:
- Vice Chairman of Tourism Interests: Carl Lum, who is the park president of Busch Gardens Williamsburg
- Vice Chairman of Business Interests: Leigh Houghland, a commercial lender for Union First Market Bank
- Treasurer: Terry Banez, operations manager at Yankee Candle Flagship
- Immediate Past Chairman: John Hallowell, president of hospitality and products for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation
- Alliance President and CEO: Dick Schreiber
