A Jamestown High School senior received his Eagle Scout Award in a recent ceremony at Jamestown Presbyterian Church.
Aleksandr Prodyachev, a Williamsburg resident, is a member of Troop 102, which is chartered by Jamestown Presbyterian Church. Prodyachev has served in numerous leadership roles in the troop, most recently as the senior patrol leader. He is a member of the Boy Scouts of America’s national honor society Order of the Arrow.
The Eagle Scout is the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts. The first award was given out more than 100 years ago, and since then, more than 2 million men have gone on to earn it. To receive the Eagle Scout award, a Scout must earn at least 21 merit badges while demonstrating service and leadership.
The capstone of the process is an extensive service project. Podyachev’s project was the refurbishing and waterproofing of a wooden handicap ramp at Jamestown Presbyterian Church.
Fewer than 5 percent of Boy Scouts nationwide earn the Eagle Scout award.
