For the seventh year, Beyond Boobs! is gearing up to honor women who were diagnosed with breast cancer in an annual calendar unveiling at a gala event.
The Pink Carpet Gala will take place Sept. 21, when the Beyond Boobs! seventh annual A Calendar to Live By will be revealed for the first time.
The calendar reveal will not only be a surprise to attendees, but also to the 12 women from across Virginia and North Carolina who are to be featured, who have not yet seen it. A behind-the-scenes video of the calendar photo shoot can be viewed on the Beyond Boobs! website.
“They are pretty much royalty at this event. They are dressed to the nines and wearing sashes for the months they represent … and on this night they are actually seeing the calendar for the first time along with us,” said Vicki Vawter, the Beyond Boobs! events and marketing manager.
The calendar serves as a fundraiser for Beyond Boobs!, an organization “dedicated to healing and saving lives by supporting young women diagnosed with breast cancer while providing breast health education for all.”
About 11,000 calendars are printed and about 80 percent of them are donated.
“The calendar is not a calendar, it’s really a breast health document disguised as a calendar,” Vawter said.
The copies of the calendar that aren’t donated are sold at the Beyond Boobs! office at 1311 Jamestown Road, Suite 202, as well as in a few retail locations around town and online.
Tickets to the gala are on sale now and can be purchased online or by calling Vicki Vawter at 757-846-1095 or emailing her at [email protected].
