Lackey Free Clinic recently received a $5,000 grant from the BJ’s Charitable Foundation.
The Clinic and BJ’s Wholesale Club will work together to purchase new dental supplies and repair current equipment for the Uninsured Patients Program, thanks to the grant.
“We are extremely thankful to have the support of community organizations like BJ’s that make it possible for Lackey Free Clinic to continue to provide care to residents in the Greater Williamsburg and Peninsula Region,” said lackey Executive Director Carol Sale.
The Lackey Free Clinic serves the Williamsburg, James City County, York County, Newport News and Poquoson areas as a primary-, chronic- and specialty-care health clinic for uninsured, low-income or unemployed residents. The Clinic provides free health care to its patients through fifteen different specialty clinics, dental services, an in-house pharmacy, behavioral health counseling and spiritual support.
“The BJ’s Charitable Foundation is dedicated to supporting hunger prevention, self-sufficiency, healthcare and education in the communities surrounding our Clubs,” according to Jessica Newman, executive director of the BJ’s Charitable Foundation.
“BJ’s Charitable Foundation donated a total of $16 million to 1,900 nonprofit charitable organizations across our footprint during this grant cycle, and we hope these donations benefit the incredible efforts of our partners working to impact the lives of individuals and families and enable them to continue to provide crucial services to those in need.”
Last year, Lackey Free Clinic had 12,200 patient visits and provided nearly $7 million worth of healthcare services, and did so with the help of 431 volunteers. The Clinic is just finishing an expansion and renovation that will double the number of exam rooms and dental operatories and includes two group education classrooms, four eligibility screening stations, an enhanced pharmacy, a chapel and staff offices. A grand opening is set for Sept. 13.
