Local Nationwide agent Mike Rock was honored with an award from his company for his volunteer and community service efforts.
“A Nationwide agent for 30 years… Rock dedicates much of his time to a number of organizations around the community, and his involvement with these organizations earned him the Mid Atlantic Regional Community Service Award,” according to a press release about the award.
A charity of his choice will receive a $500 donation from Nationwide Insurance, and Rock will also be featured on a Wall of Fame in the Nationwide corporate office in Columbus.
“It’s a great honor to have been chosen by the Regional Management Team as the Mid Atlantic Region’s Community Service Award winner, as there are over 500 agents in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington, D.C. to choose from,” Rock said. “I’m very fortunate to have been chosen.”
The Williamsburg Kiwanis Foundation will be the recipients of the award money. “I chose that charity because I am a member of the Williamsburg Kiwanis Club and know the good work they do to support the needs of kids in our community,” he said.
Rock has worked for several local community organizations over the years, including the United Way of Greater Williamsburg, Meals on Wheels (as a past Board member), and Jamestown High School Athletic Boosters (past president); he is currently a Board member with Blooms that Brighten and also with the Williamsburg Kiwanis Club.
Rock is a member of the Greater Williamsburg Chamber Alliance and has served on its Membership Committee, and this year he helped organize “Hands Together Historic Triangle,” and event to help local homeless people, as part of his LEAD Historic Triangle Class of 2013 project (read more about that here).
Nationwide also honored Rock with the company’s Champion Award is for outstanding achievement in sales of multiple products, and honor he’s receiving for the sixth time.
