Hometown: HRA Gets $10K Check from SunTrust

Mark A. Johnson, Assistant Vice President and Community Development Manager at the Hampton Roads SunTrust Bank, presented the check to Campaign Chair Wendy C. Drucker ’76, Headmaster Peter W. Mertz and Board of Trustees Chair James C. Burnett.

SunTrust Foundation presented a check for $10,000 to Hampton Roads Academy to support the school’s Setting Our Course campaign, the largest campaign in its history.

“Additions and improvements in phase one of the Setting Our Course campaign are evident throughout the school,” according to a press release about the campaign’s progress.

The walls of the new academic wing are under construction. Once complete, the wing will include five state-of-the-art science laboratories and seven classrooms with fully integrated technology. Also, renovations throughout the Lower, Middle and Upper School divisions, a new front entrance and student commons area are included in the improvements and will be completed by this fall.

Last week, Mark A. Johnson, Assistant Vice President and Community Development Manager at the Hampton Roads SunTrust Bank, presented the check to Campaign Chair Wendy C. Drucker ’76, Headmaster Peter W. Mertz and Board of Trustees Chair James C. Burnett.

Other donors to the campaign include Ferguson Enterprises, Old Point National Bank, TowneBank, Riverside Health System, W.M. Jordan Company and donations from individuals, businesses and private foundations.

“These corporate and community organizations recognize the exceptional qualities of Hampton Roads Academy and believe in the mission and the vision of the school,” according to the release.

“It is through their generous support, as well as the support from the HRA community, that the school is able to provide the best facilities and programs for current and future generations of students.”
