Hometown: Local Hunting, Wildlife Conservation Group Hosts Fundraiser

The Colonial Longbeards Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) is holding its annual Hunting Heritage banquet on March 15.

The NWTF was founded in 1973 in Fredericksburg and is dedicated to the conservation of the American Wild Turkey and the preservation of our national hunting heritage. The nonprofit has a strong and growing membership, with local chapters in every state.

The NWTF has several outreach programs:

  • Wheelin’ Sportsman – providing outdoor opportunities for the physically and mentally disabled.
  • JAKES (Juniors Acquiring Knowledge and Ethics) – providing outdoor opportunities to our youth through the Youth Shooting and JAKES Take Aim Programs
  • WITO (Women in the Outdoors) – providing outdoor opportunities for women
  • Turkey Hunters Care – donating frozen turkeys for the underprivileged during the holidays
  • Scholarship Program – presenting $500 – $1000 scholarships to a local graduating senior

The banquet helps fund the group’s various outreach programs. “We need the support of the local business community as well as individual banquet attendees,” says Cole Joyner, regional director of the Colonial Longbeards Chapter.

The banquet will take place on March 15 at the Williamsburg Crowne Plaza. For more information on the event or to get tickets, contact Scott Gresham at [email protected].
