Hometown: Enter Arts District Logo Contest

The Williamsburg Arts District needs a new logo, and the Williamsburg Arts District Association (WADA) is holding a contest to find the perfect design.

The contest will run from Feb. 20 to March 11, and the winning entry will receive $500 (a joint award from WADA and the city’s Economic Development Authority).

“The logo should help define our mission and be designed for multi-purpose uses, including street flags, banners, or print materials,” according to Adelle Carpenter, chair of WADA and co-owner of the Virginia Regional Ballet.

The Arts District was created by City Council a few years ago and provides incentives to encourage creative businesses, including visual and performing artists, culinary artists, graphic designers, architects, the communications, computer industries and other endeavors where the capital is creativity.

It is located generally between Richmond Road and Lafayette Street in the blocks of Bacon Street, Westover, Shirley, Delaware and Wythe Avenues. Some businesses inside the District include the Dancer’s Boutique, Virginia Regional Ballet Studio, Extraordinary Cupcakes and This Century Art Gallery’s Art Education Center. Multiple entries will be accepted; the winner will be announced in late March. Submitted logos will become the property of the Arts District Association.

Submissions should be in a .pdf file and should be emailed by March 11 to [email protected]  and  [email protected]. Send questions via email, too.
