Planning Commission to Host Public Hearing Feb. 13 on Updated Comprehensive Plan Draft
The York County Planning Commission will host a public hearing 7 p.m. Feb. 13 to receive comment on the updated draft of the Comprehensive Plan.
The hearing will take place at the commission’s regular meeting. The Comprehensive Plan, called “Charting the Course to 2023: The County of York Comprehensive Plan,” outlines the long-range goals for the development of the county. The code of Virginia requires the plan to be reviewed at least once every five years.
The Planning Commission will review public comments before taking action. Once the commission approves the draft, it will go to the Board of Supervisors who will consider the draft for final adoption.

Carrot Tree to Host Literary High Tea Wednesday
The Yorktown Carrot Tree will host Literary High Tea Wednesday, featuring Lois Winter who will lecture on the Civil War in Yorktown.

Riverwalk Restaurant to Host Valentine’s Day Special

Swing by the Senior Center of York for a Pair of February Events
Laurel VanderJeudt will lead a workshop that will teach you how to create cards and bookmarks with old-fashioned pictures and artificial flowers on Feb. 11 at 11 a.m.
Register by Feb. 6. Each participant will be allowed to make up to four cards.
Col. Lafayette Jones, a descendent of the first people to live in James City County’s Freedom Park, will present a discussion on the present-day development and history of the park site that goes back to the 1650s.
Freedom Park is built on land that was once home to the earliest known free black settlement. There is also an 18th Century cemetery, a 17th Century home site and the land where the Battle of Spencer’s Ordinary took place in the Revolutionary War.
Refreshments will be provided. Register by Feb. 12.
The annual Bingo event at the Senior Center of York will take place Feb. 15 from 1 – 3 p.m. Everyone goes home with a prize.
