The Grove Christian Outreach Center (GCOC) is looking for assistance for families in need who live in the Grove community in James City County.
The GCOC is looking for a tent for someone recently homeless, non-perishable food, men and women’s athletic socks and diapers (sizes 2, 5 and 6) and diaper wipes. September is Hunger Action Month, so GCOC is partnering with other local businesses to offer the following drop-off locations for food: TowneBank (Kingsmill and New Town Branches), Hudgins Holiday Chevrolet Cadillac on Second Street, the Chick-Fil-A on Mooretown Road and the Williamsburg Center for Dental Health near Fresh market. Donations can also be dropped off at CGOC.
GCOC Assistant Director Deena Walls said in an email to supporters: “As electric bill cut offs and eviction notices emerge almost daily we are seeing an increase of those who are out of work, those who have been laid off or who have qualifications but there are just not jobs available.
“It is heartwrenching when someone loses their home after years of stability because the economy says so. We have limited financial assistance available and do all that we can to work with other agencies to help meet these needs, but there are still some who end up sleeping on the streets or eating dinner in the dark.
“Please pray for those in our community who are hurting like this that we would truly seek God on their behalf for provisions, direction, and open doors.”
