HISTORIC TRIANGLE— The 4th Annual Keeper’s Cup Memorial Soccer Tournament returns to the Williamsburg area this March, bringing together 18 schools and more than 1,000 high school soccer players for two nights of competition, community engagement, and powerful distracted driving awareness efforts.
The tournament will take place across six fields, including five at Warhill Sports Complex in Williamsburg and one at Bailey Field in York County. Games begin each evening with three games per night on March 16 and March 18 from 4-9 p.m.
More than just a soccer tournament, Keeper’s Cup serves as a community-wide platform for teen traffic safety education in memory of Yorktown teen, Conner Guido, who was killed in a 100% preventable crash in 2019.
“We bring the Keeper’s Cup back every year because my son doesn’t get another year. This event is about more than soccer — it’s about bringing our community together to protect our teens. Prevention isn’t a one-time conversation; it requires consistency and showing up year after year. If sharing Conner’s story and creating these moments of awareness prevents even one family from experiencing this kind of loss, then every field, every game, and every outreach station is worth it,” Tammy Guido McGee, Conner’s mom, shared.
At Warhill Sports Complex, the Gweedo Memorial Foundation will host a free distracted driving safety outreach event open to the public. Teens and families are encouraged to visit interactive stations staffed by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), AAA, local fire & EMS departments, law enforcement officers, tow truck operators, victim advocates, community safety partners, and more.
Participants will engage in hands-on activities, receive safety giveaways, and learn practical strategies for safer driving. Teens who scan QR codes at each station will be entered into a drawing to win $250.
Two concession stands will be operated at the event, staffed by local Girl Scout troops who will be selling Girl Scout cookies. The event will also feature an online auction where all proceeds will benefit the Gweedo Memorial Foundation.
