GLOUCESTER — Gloucester High School football recently received a $5,000 donation, thanks to T-Mobile’s Friday Night 5G Lights Initiative.
The contest is designed to uplift rural and under-resourced high school football programs in communities with under 150,000 people. By winning the $5,000 portion of the contest, the Gloucester football program is now in the running to win the $1 million grand prize.
The grand prize also includes a football field makeover, a renovated weight room by Gronk Fitness, a consultation with a stadium experience expert, a 2026 tailgate party and a trip to the SEC Championship Game.
“We are extremely excited to have made the cut as one of the schools winning $5,000 from T-Mobile. Our student leadership class is enjoying getting the student body and administration engaged in the activities. We hope to use some of the money to send students to the Virginia High School League student leadership conference later this fall. We are meeting with coaches and students to see what items they are interested in to help us enhance our Friday Night Lights experience for fans and the community.” said Kristy Hunter, Athletic and Activities Director for Gloucester High School.
According to an announcement from T-Mobile, coaches and administrators are saying these funds are already helping them invest in equipment, improve safety and bring a morale boost just in time for the season.
In addition to Gloucester, other Virginia high schools that earned recognition include Amelia County High School, Prince Edward County High School, Culpeper County High School, Strasburg High School and Graham High School.
The deadline for schools to apply for the program is Sept. 12. The grand prize winner will be announced on Oct. 30.
