Sophomores Dance and Geddes Combine for 53, Carry Women’s Hoops Past No. 1 A&T to Semifinals

WASHINGTON — Monet Dance and Cassidy Geddes combined for 53 points, including all 10 in overtime, as William & Mary upset the top seed and regular season champion North Carolina A&T, 74-66, in extra time on Friday afternoon in quarterfinals of the 2025 Credit Union 1 CAA Women’s Basketball Championship.

In overtime, Dance scored the first five points and Geddes scored the next five to spur W&M on to its first-ever win over the No. 1 seed in the postseason.
The Tribe recorded the first 10 points of the extra frame and limited the Aggies to just 1-of-8 shooting and only two points with just 25 seconds remaining. In total, the Green and Gold locked down defensively, holding A&T scoreless for more than nine minutes to end regulation and start OT.
Dance scored a career-high 27 points, the third time this season she tallied her best mark against N.C. A&T. The total was also the most for a Tribe player in CAA Tournament history.
Speaking of history, the sophomore connected on seven 3-pointers which tied a CAA Tournament record. In total, she was 10-of-13 from the floor and scored 13 points in the fourth quarter and overtime.
Geddes equaled her career-high with 26 points on 11-of-17 shooting, including 2-of-4 from 3-point range. The Hickory, N.C. native added seven rebounds and five assists. Fellow classmate, Jana Sallman, tallied seven points and eight rebounds off the bench in the win.
The Tribe started hot, hitting its first three shots, all from beyond the arc. Dance knocked down a pair, while senior Bella Nascimento connected on the third to give W&M a 9-4 lead 3:38 into the contest.
W&M led 14-10 after a Geddes 3-pointer, NC A&T closed the first quarter on a 10-0 run. In total the Aggies hit five of its final six shots from the floor in the period. Four different players scored during the stretch, including 3-poitners from Elliott Jessup and Maleia Bracone, and they led 20-14 after 10 minutes.
The Aggies remained hot, hitting three of its first four from the floor in the second half as part of an 8-2 run. Paris Locke scored the first five points for the top seed before an Ajia James 3-pointer just 1:30 into third forced a W&M timeout and lifted the Aggie lead to 42-36.
The deficit was just three after an Anahi-Lee Cauley lay-up with six minutes left in the third, but A&T used a 9-0 run to extend the margin to double-digits. Jordyn Dorsey went coast-to-coast off a rebound to push the margin to 51-41 at the 3:06 mark and forced a Tribe timeout, before a Darrion Howard bucket with 1:38 left in the frame pushed the margin to 12.
W&M scored the final six of the third quarter, including four from Geddes. Her jumper with two seconds remaining closed the gap to 53-47.
Dance and Geddes combined for a 7-0 run in the fourth quarter to tie the game. Dance scored five in a row over a span of 33 seconds, flipping in a lay-up and knocking down a corner 3-pointer. A Geddes lay-up at 5:48 tied the game at 59.
A&T went in front on two occasions, including by three, 64-61, with 3:45 left, but junior Kayla Rolph knocked down a corner 3-pointer to tie the contest with just over two minutes left.
W&M shot 51.7% (30-of-58) from the floor, including an impressive 11-of-19 (57.9%) from 3-point range while also holding a 40-34 advantage on the glass.
Defensively, the Tribe held NC A&T to just 37% (27-of-73) shooting and only 5-of-22 from 3-point range. The Aggies stayed within striking distance, forcing W&M into 20 turnovers and converting that into 23 points.
Locke led A&T with 16 points and nine rebounds, but she was just 6-of-20 from the floor. Dorsey and Chaniya Clark tallied 13 points apiece.

The Tribe advances to the semifinals for the seventh time in school history and faces the winner of No. 4 Drexel and No. 5 Monmouth on Saturday, March 15.
