RICHMOND — William & Mary senior Alessandra Anghel was selected as the CAA Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
It marked the second weekly award this season for Anghel, who earned doubles team of the week honors with sophomore Francesca Davis on Feb. 4. It is also the second player of the week award for the Tribe this season after senior Hedda Gurholt took home the honor on Feb. 4 as well. It is the first player of the week award of Anghel’s career.
Anghel won both her singles matches in straight-sets to lead the Tribe to victories over George Washington and UNCW last week. She downed Vaida Matuseviciute, 6-4, 6-3, in W&M’s 7-0 win over the Revolutionaries. Anghel clinched the Tribe’s 6-1 CAA-opening win over UNCW with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Stela Joksimovic at No. 2. Angel improved to 12-7 on the year and 4-2 at No. 2. She also teamed with Davis to win both matches at No. 2 doubles.
The Tribe continues its homestand with two matches this weekend. The Tribe takes on East Carolina on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 1 p.m. before hosting Wake Forest on Sunday, Feb. 23, at 11 a.m.
