NEWPORT NEWS — Christopher Newport University welcomes three other schools this weekend as the Captains host the Holiday Inn Invitational at the Freeman Center.
The two-day tournament begins Saturday at 2:00 p.m. as Franklin & Marshall College (Pa.) takes on the University of St. Joseph (Ct.). The game will be followed by the Captains and Transylvania University (Ky.) at approximately 4:00 p.m. Saturday’s winners will meet on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. in the championship game. The third-place game will be played at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Toys for Tots will be conducting a toy drive on Saturday, and anyone who brings an unopened toy to the Freeman Center will be admitted free of charge.
Christopher Newport is 5-2 on the season, and the Captains are ranked tenth in the country by D3hoops.com. CNU is coming off an 80-65 loss on Monday night at Averett University. The meeting with Transylvania, located in Lexington, Ky., will be the first ever of the schools. The Pioneers have a record of 1-1 entering Saturday’s action.
Franklin & Marshall, from Lancaster, Pa., has a record of 4-2 on the season, while the University of St. Joseph, from West Hartford, Ct., is 3-1. The Diplomats and Blue Jays will also be meeting for the first time ever.
Christopher Newport games are broadcast live on the Home of the Captains, Xtra 99.1 FM and CNUsports.com. The pre-game show will begin at 3:40 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
