WILLIAMSBURG — The William & Mary women’s tennis team produced five ITA Scholar-Athletes and earned the All-Academic Team honor, the organization announced on Monday.
It marked the 11th-straight year that W&M received the team honor, while Emma Fernald, Hedda Gurholt, Ine Stange, Mila Mejic, and Yaelle Vaissaud received ITA Scholar-Athlete accolades.
W&M received the team award for the 15th time overall. In total, 1,573 Division I Women’s student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, and 255 women’s tennis programs garnered the All-Academic Team recognition. Individually, it was the third scholar-athlete award for Stange and Mejic, while Fernald, Gurholt, and Vaissaud garnered the distinction for the second-straight season.
Since 2002, W&M has generated a total of 80 ITA Scholar-Athletes. In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must be a varsity letter winner and have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year. All-Academic teams boast a team GPA of 3.20 or higher.
