MANAHAWKIN, N.J. — Eight members of the William & Mary field hockey team were named to the 2023 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic Squad, the organization announced on Wednesday.
The NFHCA National Academic Squad program honors collegiate student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher through the first semester of the current academic year, and were nominated by their NFHCA member coach. In total, 976 student-athletes from 79 Division I programs were named to the squad.
Senior Jayden Moon led the way as a four-year selection, one of 181 nationally. Joining Moon on the National Academic Squad were seniors Allison Goodwin and Mollie Schuma; juniors Pyper Friedman, Allie Mercer, Kellen Richbourg, and Boowa Zarcone; and sophomore Olivia Stocks.
As a team, the Tribe won its second CAA Championship with a 3-2 double-overtime win over Monmouth on Nov. 5. W&M won its second NCAA Tournament match, topping Sacred Heart, 4-0, and finished the season with 12 wins.
