(Tribe Athletics)

RICHMOND — William & Mary sophomore forward Ivey Crain was named to the 2023 Coastal Athletic Association Women’s Soccer Preseason All-Conference Team, the league announced on Thursday.

Last season, Crain was selected as the CAA Rookie of the Year and took home All-CAA First Team honors. She led the Tribe with 24 points on nine goals and six assists during her freshman campaign. Her nine goals were the most for a Tribe player since 2016 and the most for a true freshman since Claire Zimmeck had 11 in 2005. The last time a Tribe player totaled more than 24 points in a season was in 2011 when Mallory Schaffer had 40 on her way to earning All-America First Team honors.

Crain finished last season ranked fourth in the CAA in goals, fifth in points and sixth in assists. She ranked 16th nationally in shot accuracy (62.2%) and 68th in goals (9) and points (24). Among rookies, Crain was third nationally in points per game (1.26), fourth in total points and goals per game (0.47) and seventh in total goals.

The Tribe was picked eighth in the CAA preseason poll by vote of the league coaches. Monmouth is the preseason favorite to win the CAA followed by Northeastern, Hofstra, Towson, Drexel, Elon and Campbell. UNCW was ninth followed by Stony Brook, Charleston, Delaware and Hampton.

W&M continues its exhibition slate by hosting VMI on Saturday evening at 6 p.m. Admission to the match is free. The Tribe opens the season with three-straight road matches, including a pair in Philadelphia against Temple (Aug. 17) and Saint Joseph’s (Aug. 20). W&M’s home opener is set for Sunday, Aug. 27, against VCU at 1 p.m.
