RICHMOND — After leading the William & Mary football team to one of its most successful seasons in the program’s 129-year history, Head Coach Mike London was selected as the Bobby Ross Coach of the Year by the TD Club of Richmond. Each year the prestigious award is given to the top Division I football coach in Virginia.
A finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award, which is presented to the national coach of the year in FCS, London led the Tribe to a school-record-tying 11 wins, a regular-season school-record 10 victories and a share of the Colonial Athletic Association title after posting a 7-1 mark in league play.
Additionally, W&M posted a perfect 6-0 record on the road for the first time in school history and earned three wins against nationally ranked teams, as well as a lopsided season-opening triumph at FBS opponent Charlotte.
One of the nation’s most productive teams on both sides of the ball, W&M ranks eighth nationally in total offense (469.8) and in scoring defense (19.8). Additionally, for the second consecutive season the Tribe established itself as one of the country’s elite rushing attacks and currently ranks fourth nationally in yards per game on the ground (276.7).
Fifth-seeded W&M will continue its quest for a national title when it plays at fourth-seeded Montana State on Friday at 8:15 p.m. (MT). The game will be televised nationally on ESPN2.
London will be recognized for earning the Bobby Ross Coach of the Year Award during the broadcast of the Dudley and Lanier Awards presentation, scheduled for this Saturday, December 10. This awards broadcast will air on WTVR-TV6, the local CBS affiliate in Richmond. The awards show will air following the national broadcast of the Army vs. Navy football game on CBS, which kicks-off at 3:00pm.
