WILLIAMSBURG — Incoming William & Mary men’s golf freshman Charlie Bundy (Bethesda, Md./ Landon School) earned a spot in golf’s most prestigious amateur tournament, the 122nd USGA Amateur Championship. The event will be played August 15-21 at The Ridgewood Country Club, in Paramus, N.J.
Bundy shot rounds of 68-64 for an 8-under par total of 132 to claim medalist honors by four shots at the Clustered Spires qualifying site in Frederick, Md.
Bundy, the No. 2 ranked junior in Maryland, who will join the Tribe as a freshman this fall, will be playing in his second USGA event. Last summer he qualified for the United States Junior Amateur Championship held at the Country Club of North Carolina.
Bundy has been on a hot streak throughout the summer, earning consecutive top-5 finishes in AJGA events to go along with medalist honors in the US Amateur qualifier. The 36-hole qualifying had 84 players competing for 3 spots. After earning a share of the lead through the opening 18 holes with a 68, Bundy relied on solid ball-striking and a hot putter to shoot a bogey-free 64 in the afternoon.
The 122nd United States Amateur Championship begins August 15th, 2022. A total of 312 players will compete for amateur golf’s most coveted trophy.
