Tredell Blow put together his second dominant offensive performance in as many days Wednesday, going 3-for-4 with 5 RBIs as Walsingham Academy narrowly defeated Norfolk Christian 9-8 at home.
Wednesday’s game started inauspiciously for the Trojans, who found themselves in a quick 5-0 hole after the second inning.
Walsingham found its stride in the bottom of the third inning as Blow started a crucial scoring run with an RBI triple. During the next at bat, Zach Stanko reached base on a fielding error that also allowed Blow to score from third.
With Stanko on base, JJ Burns stepped to the plate and blasted a two-run home run over the right field wall to reduce Norfolk Christian’s lead to one run.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Blow sent a three-run home run sailing over the center field wall. Blow’s homer gave Walsingham a 7-5 lead, which the Trojans would not relinquish.
The Trojans, now leading 9-5, had a final scare from Norfolk Christian in the top of the sixth inning when the Ambassadors notched a two-run single by Zach Milligan that cut Walsingham’s lead to two runs.
Later that inning, Albert Rice scored on a fielding error, of which Walsingham committed seven throughout the game.
With runners on second and third, Walsingham was able to record back-to-back outs to escape the inning and secure the victory.
Walsingham (6-5) will host Tidewater Academy on Friday.
