
Lafayette’s Michael Tyler and Konrad Steck each set Group 4A East meet records en route to leading the Rams to a regional championship on Thursday at Boo Williams Sportsplex.
The Rams finished first in the boys competition with 76 points, which bested second-place Midlothian with 58 points. Jamestown placed third with 45 points, while Grafton took fourth with 42 points.
Tyler set a Group 4A East meet record in the high jump after clearing 6-6, while Steck set a meet record in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:21.13.
Jametown’s Jordan Willis joined other local athletes in setting new Group 4A East meet records. Willis set a new mark in the long jump with a leap of 21-11 and 300-meter dash with a time of 36.08.
Grafton’s Miles Owens also scored a meet record, his coming in the 3,200-meter run in a time of 10:06.11. The Grafton 4×400-meter relay also claimed a meet record with a finishing time of 3:33.05.
Lafayette came up just short in the girls competition, placing second behind Midlothian. The Rams finished the meet with 68 points, which was well behind Midlothian’s 95.50 points. Grafton placed ninth overall with 32 points, and Jamestown earned 15th place with 15 points.
Brooke Crookston of Lafayette scored a pair of meet records in the 1,600-meter run and 1,000-meter run. Crookston won the 3,200-meter run in a time of 5:11.02 and the 1,000-meter run in a time of 3:08.43.
The Lafayette girls 4×400-meter relay also set a new meet record with a time of 4:10.61.
Jamestown’s girls set a meet record in the 4×800-meter relay, crossing the finish line in 10:07.13.
