Grafton’s field hockey team lost a hard-fought 2-1 game to Menchville at home Thursday evening.
Menchville got on the board in the first half thanks to a Jessica von Schmidt-Pauli goal. Menchville held that 1-0 advantage heading into the half.
In the second half, Grafton found the back of the cage for the first time. Grace Hoepfner collected a pass from Abby Zwirschitz and finished it to get the Clippers on the board.
But a goal from Menchville’s Hannah Struble put the game away and secured the win.
Grafton goalkeeper Laurel Nicks recorded nine saves in the losing effort.
The Clippers (1-2) will hope to rebound on the road against Poquoson on Monday.
