With Bruton’s softball season set to kick off next week, senior DaSha Hill has decided she is going to continue her playing career in college.
Hill confirmed she was accepted into Louisburg College, a junior college in Louisburg, N.C., during a phone call with WYDaily today.
“I’ve been expecting to go to Louisburg,” she said. “I got accepted yesterday. I talked to the coach and she asked if I was coming. I said, ‘Of course.'”
The Bruton center fielder is coming off a season with 18 stolen bases and an impressive .477 batting average. Hill, who also ran track and played field hockey for the Panthers, also won three individual state championships during the 1A/2A Indoor State Track and Field Championships last week.
Hill got a phone call from Louisburg coach Hope Creasy in November asking Hill to take a visit. She visited the college in February and fell in love with the campus and the team.
A major deciding factor for Hill choosing to play at Louisburg, a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association, was not getting the “looks” she wanted from bigger schools. Longwood University, Ferrum College, Virginia State University and Hampton University each scouted Hill, but none offered scholarships.
With a goal to play Divison I softball, Hill viewed Louisburg as a good stepping stone.
“I think this is good for me,” she said. “Considering I didn’t get the looks I wanted for softball, I’m hoping to get the looks while going here. I met the team and I really liked them. I like how it’s smaller. Considering that Bruton is a small school, I didn’t want to hop into a big school.”
