Game On: Lafayette to Host Alumni Soccer Game on Friday

GameOn.2.0Lafayette High will host its inaugural boys soccer alumni game 5 p.m. Friday at Cooley Field.

The game will feature 40 former players who will be broken into teams based on their year of graduation. Players with odd graduation years will square off against alumni with even graduation years.

Rams’ 12-year coach Brian Sorrell called it an “incredible turnout,” and is excited many of the program’s former greats, including Mike Scruggs (’07), Brent Trainum (’96) and Larry Walk (’94), will take the field. Scruggs and Trainum are currently coaches with the Virginia Legacy Soccer Club.

“It’s a great testament to our program that so many guys want to come back and play,” Sorrell said.

The game is open to the public with a $5 admission fee. Proceeds will benefit the Lafayette High boys soccer program, and anyone who pays is encouraged to join the players afterward at Paul’s Deli and receive 10 percent off their food bill.
