For her efforts in helping Tabb’s girls soccer team sweep the Bay Rivers District and inaugural conference titles, defender Rachael Brewer has been named the 4A Conference 19 Player of the Year.
In a sport where goal scorers steal the headlines over the players in the back, Tigers first-year coach Kelle Shiflett said Brewer’s combination of speed, aggression and leadership were the qualities that made her so recognizable on the field.
Brewer, who will play at Christopher Newport University next year, starred on a Tabb back line that has given up six goals in 15 games this season.
She was joined on the all-conference first team by four of her teammates: forward Erin Fenton, midfielders Katie Herold and Megan Richards, and defender Natalie Stratton.
Jamestown led the way with seven all-conference first team selections while Grafton placed three, as those two schools, along with Tabb, swept the first-team honors.
Jamestown’s selected players were forwards Paige Majdic, Aaliyah Lyttle and Morgan Connell, midfielders Bailey Cristian and Peyton Helbert, and defenders Maddie Clevinger and Alex Dayton.
Grafton’s first-team selections were forward Jackie Armstrong, midfielder Jamie Brown, defender Kaitlyn Yachem and goalkeeper Olivia Wilson.
