The College of William & Mary’s baseball team helped make history twice in a 24-hour span over the weekend.
On Friday, the Tribe came up short 3-2 against the College of Charleston in 23 innings, marking the second longest game in NCAA history.
It was the first meeting between the two schools, who ended up being featured on ESPN’s flagship program Sportscenter.
A day later, after dropping the first game of a double-header against Charleston, William & Mary won the nightcap 6-0 to clinch the first Colonial Athletic Association regular season title in school history.
The Tribe entered the three-game series needing one win to secure its first-ever conference crown, and accomplished the feat on its last chance to do so.
Sophomore Mitchell Akerand junior Bryson Kauhaahaa combined to pitch a three-hit shutout in the win, while senior Kevin Nutter and sophomore Ryan Hissey led the Tribe at the plate collecting three hits apiece.
