The Virginia Legacy announced Wednesday it has chosen a name for its new professional soccer team, which will launch its inaugural season in the National Premier Soccer League this summer.
After allowing the public to submit suggestions up until last week, the organization chose the name ‘Legacy 76,’ to incorporate the year – 1976 – that Virginia Legacy was founded. The name was suggested by one of Legacy’s own youth coaches, Phil Brown.
“We received over 50 suggestions in our name-the-team contest and believe this submission by Legacy youth coach Phil Brown encapsulates all of our unique branding initiatives,” Legacy director Bobby O’Brien said in a news release.
Legacy 76’s first game as a member of the NPSL, the largest men’s amateur league in the country with more than 80 teams nationwide, is scheduled for May 17.
