
The College of William & Mary’s men’s swimming team swam in the closest Colonial Athletic Association Championships this week, finishing second to UNCW by just eight points, 729.5-721.5.
The meet came down to the very last relay, and it took a conference record to beat a game Tribe team.
W&M had the three top point-scoring individuals and four of the top five overall led by senior Andrew Strait, who was named the Swimmer of the Championships for the second year in a row after winning all three of his individual events and three of four relays. Click here for details.
Women’s Swimming Finishes Third at CAA Championships
The Tribe women’s swimming team finished third at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships on Saturday, winning its second individual title of the week and scoring 462 points in total.
Towson University won its sixth championship in the last seven years with 858 points, and James Madison University was second with 653 points.
Gymnastics
The No. 13 William & Mary men’s gymnastics team posted the top score in school history with a 425.4 – 413.65 victory against No. 14 Navy at Kaplan Arena on Sunday afternoon.
On Friday, sophomore Brittany Stover highlighted the Tribe’s individual performances by winning the beam title as William & Mary’s women’s gymnastics team posted its second-best score of the season en route to placing fourth at a quad meet hosted by North Carolina State.
Tribe Golf Places Fourth at Snowman Getaway
The Tribe men’s golf team wrapped up an exceptional tournament Tuesday at the Snowman Getaway, carving out a round of 286 (-2) to finish in fourth place overall with a three-round score of 6-under (858).
Illinois State shot a 15-under in the final round to tie Air Force atop the team standings at 849 (-15), and No. 36-ranked Ryan McCormick of St. John’s claimed the individual crown by three strokes with a total of 201 (-15).
The Tribe reached its total thanks to not counting any score higher than a 74 (+2) all week, a distinction no other team in the 17-team tournament could claim. Click here for details.
Tennis
The W&M men’s tennis doubles team of senior Ben Guthrie and freshman Addison Appleby advanced to the round of 16 on the final day of the 125th annual Pacific Coast Doubles Championship. The Green and Gold duo won a pair of matches at the event on the Sunday. Click here for details.
The women’s team dropped its only match of the week at home against Boston University 3-4.
Baseball
The Tribe improved to 6-4 on the season after completing a three-game sweep of visiting UMBC on Sunday.
Basketball
W&M’s men’s basketball team earned a five-point home victory over Hofstra on Wednesday before suffering a narrow two-point loss against second-place Towson in the final seconds to finish the week 1-1. The Tribe finished the regular season with an 18-11 record, and will begin CAA tournament play next Saturday.
William and Mary’s women’s basketball team also went 1-1 this week. The Tribe ran away from Northeastern 67-50 on Thursday before falling to league-leading James Madison University on Sunday. William & Mary dropped to 8-19 with the loss and will wrap up the regular season at home against Hofstra on Wednesday.
