Game On: Walsingham Girls Basketball Adds Cayman Islands Transfer

GameOn.2.0Walsingham Academy’s girls basketball team has a new transfer from the Cayman Islands who will play her second game in a Trojans uniform tonight in the school’s Tidewater Conference opener against Hampton Roads Academy.

April Ebanks, a 17-year-old sophomore forward, enrolled at Walsingham Academy on Monday and played six minutes in the Trojans’ 47-34 loss against the Hampton Roads Cougars.

Head coach Neil Bailey said Ebanks, who averaged 28 points and 21 rebounds for the Cayman Islands’ Women of Valor club team last fall, will gradually work her way into the rotation and will likely see an increased workload in tonight’s game. She scored six points in six minutes Monday.

“She looked real good,” Bailey said of Ebanks during her limited court time Monday.

Ebanks played for the same club organization as senior Hannah Parchment, who transferred to Walsingham this year from the prestigious IMG Academy in Florida.

Parchment, who also played for the Cayman Islands Junior National Team before transferring to IMG, was averaging 17 points, eight assists and seven steals for the Trojans this season before suffering a partially torn ACL in early December. She was drawing heavy interest from Division I schools, including William and Mary, and is hopeful to return in the coming weeks.

“I’m very happy to be here,” Ebanks said during practice this week. “Walsingham is a great school and having Hannah [Parchment] here makes things easier.”
