The Score: Thursday’s Bay Rivers District Girls Basketball Roundup

Lafayette and Grafton win to maintain share of first place in the Bay Rivers District, and more.

Lafayette 60  York 31

Keyana Brown finished with 23 points, seven steals, four rebounds and three assists, and Kenya Holiday added 11 points and five steals as Lafayette cruised to its eighth-consecutive win, 60-31, against York on Thursday. Nine of the 10 who dressed scored for the Rams (9-1, 8-1 BRD), who remain tied with Grafton for first place in the Bay Rivers District.

Smithfield 44  Bruton 25

Kelsey Sluss scored a team-high eight points as Bruton lost 44-25 at home against Smithfield on Thursday. The Panthers (3-6 BRD) led 20-15 at halftime but scored just five points during the final two quarters combined en route to being outscored 29-5 during the second half. Jackie Jordan led the Packers (7-2) with 13 points.

Poquoson 54  Jamestown 34

Sydney Turner scored a game-high 18 points and Brittany Frazier added 13 as Poquoson pulled away in the second half to beat Jamestown 54-34 at home. Aine Cannon scored 12 points to lead Jamestown (3-6 BRD).

Grafton 61  Tabb 29

With leading scorer Olivia Wilson battling strep throat, Hannah Olson (18 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, four steals), Hayley Marshall (17 points, seven steals, six rebounds) and Emily Beyer (nine points, seven assists) stepped up to lead Grafton past Tabb 61-29 at home Thursday. The Clippers (8-1 BRD) maintained a first-place tie in the Bay Rivers District alongside Lafayette with the victory. Tommy Bayse, the Clippers coach, reached his 100th career win.
