The Score: Jamestown, Grafton Win Region 4A South Volleyball Tournament Openers

Bay Rivers District volleyball rivals Jamestown and Grafton are one win away from meeting for the fourth time this season.

Both teams breezed past their Region 4A South quarterfinal opponents Monday and will play in the semifinals tonight with a state-tournament berth on the line. If both win, they’ll meet in Thursday’s tournament final.

Region 4A South Volleyball Tournament

Quarterfinals

Jamestown def. Glen Allen 25-17, 25-2, 25-12

Kelly Esch tallied 15 kills while Monique St. Cyr and Victoria Bowen served six aces apiece as Jamestown dominated visiting Glen Allen in three sets Monday night. The Eagles, who finished with 18 total aces as a team, will host Churchland in the Region 4A South semifinals 7 p.m. today at Jamestown High.

Grafton def. Midlothian 25-14, 25-18, 25-13

Kendall Mahony’s well-rounded effort (11 kills, 10 digs, eight aces) led Grafton to a 3-0 road win at Midlothian in the opening round of the Region 4A South tournament Monday night. Christa Hall added 37 assists and nine digs and Sophia Beaudoin chipped in with 11 digs and eight kills for the Clippers, who will travel to play Nansemond River at 6 p.m. today. The winner will clinch a state-tournament berth as well as a spot in Thursday’s final.
