Jamestown, York Players on Girls All-State Soccer List

All-State girls soccer selections were announced Friday, with nine Bay Rivers District players earning honors. Jamestown’s team saw seven players named to the all-state list, more than any other AA team in the state. York’s girls had two players on the list.

Leading the way were two Jamestown defenders: Marissa Segala and goalkeeper Hannah Sams, who were named to the first team.

Segala, a senior during the 2013 season who earned all-district Player of the Year and Region I Co-Player of the Year honors. She heads to Harvard in the fall, where she will play soccer. Sams was terrific in goal during her senior year; she was named to the first team for Region I.

Second team all-state honors went to Jamestown’s junior forward Paige Majdic, sophomore midfielder Bailey Cristian, senior defender Jordan Chapman and junior defender Alex Dayton. York forward Jennifer Pandolf, a senior, was also named to the second team.

Honorable mentions were awarded to Jamestown senior midfielder Shelby Foret and York exchange student Kisa Reck, a sophomore from Germany.

Coach of the year went to Briar Woods’ Ann Vierkorn, and player of the year was forward Sarah Hardison of Woodgrove, who will continue her soccer career at George Mason University in the fall.
