Jamestown girls soccer defender Marissa Segala has been named co-player of the year for Region I. Segala led a Jamestown defense that allowed just two goals to Bay Rivers District opponents. She will play for Harvard next season.
Segala, who also earned the top player award in the Bay Rivers District, shares the regional player of the year honor with Courtland’s Marybeth McBroom. Coach of the year honors went to Courtland’s Dennis Berry.
Bay Rivers athletes were well-represented on the Region I first team, with nine of 16 spots going to local girls.
