Warhill’s baseball team clinched a share of the Bay Rivers District title for a second-straight year after defeating cross-town rival Jamestown 8-1 on Tuesday.
The Lions got yet another stellar pitching outing from ace Michael Brumfield, who tossed all seven innings allowing just five hits while striking out 11 Eagles batters. Blake Wills (2-3) helped break the game open in the top of the second inning with a bases-clearing three-RBI double before Brumfield (1-3) chipped in with an RBI triple.
The Lions (14-4 BRD) earned a share of the district crown with New Kent (14-4 BRD), which blanked Bruton 10-0 on Tuesday. Both teams are guaranteed berths to the Region I tournament.

Lafayette 12 Poquoson 4
Luc and Andre Lipcious combined to bat 4-7 from the plate with Luc belting his first homerun of the season as Lafayette rolled past Poquoson in both team’s regular-season finale Tuesday. Tyler Kirby picked up the pitching win for the Rams (13-5 BRD), who will be the No. 3 seed in the upcoming district tournament and will secure a regional tournament bid as long as no team seeded fourth or lower wins the tournament.
Grafton 12 York 3
In a critical matchup to decide district-tournament seeding, visiting Grafton got a collective effort at the plate in defeating rival York 12-3, bringing both teams’ final regular-season record to 12-6. In addition to earning the win on the mound, Gray Harris also added a 3-5 day at the plate with a trio of runs scored and RBIs while Nic Kurz finished 4-5 with a triple, two runs and one RBI. Lane Deaver (3-5) also scored three runs and drove in a pair for the Clippers, who earned the district’s No. 4 seed with the win and will face the No. 5-seeded Falcons once more at home on Saturday in the tournament quarterfinals.

Smithfield 1 Tabb 0
Winner take all was the scenario, and Smithfield sophomore pitching star Sydney Gay pitched her twelfth complete game of the season to lead the Packers (16-2 BRD) past visiting Tabb 1-0 Tuesday as Smithfield clinched the district title outright. Smithfield will be the top seed in this weekend’s district tournament and face No. 8 Jamestown on Saturday. Tabb (14-4 BRD) will represent the No. 3 seed and open district-tournament play at home vs. No. 6 Grafton.
Grafton 3 York 2
Grafton pitcher Christa Hall settled down after a two-run first inning to keep York off the scoreboard and help the Clippers hold on for a 3-2 victory. Hannah Olson batted 3-4 at the plate with one RBI for the Grafton (9-9 BRD), who will be the No. 6 seed in the district tournament and play at No. 3 Tabb on Saturday. York (11-7), the No. 4 seed, and Grafton both will need to win the district tournament in order to advance to the Region I tournament.
Warhill 4 Jamestown 2
Colby Norris gave up two runs on eight hits in addition to going 3-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles to lead Warhill past host Jamestown 4-2 on Tuesday. Warhill (8-10 BRD) and Jamestown (5-12 BRD) will each advance to this weekend’s district tournament, the Lions as the No. 7 seed and Jamestown at No. 8.
New Kent 16 Bruton 2
Karley Allen batted 3-6 with two runs scored and an RBI and Brittany LaPrade finished 3-4 with three runs scored as New Kent cruised past Bruton 16-2 on Tuesday. The Trojans (14-4 BRD) earned the district’s No. 2 seed after sweeping Tabb, which also finished 14-2, during the regular season.

York 4 Smithfield 0
Kisa Reck scored three goals and Jennifer Pandolf added another as York breezed past Smithfield 4-0 Tuesday night. The Falcons (8-1 BRD) wrapped up the regular season a game behind district-champion Jamestown (9-0 BRD) and will be the No. 2 seed in Thursday’s opening round of the district tournament, in addition to securing a spot in the Region I tournament.
