BASEBALL

Poquoson 4  York 0

Ryan Darnell kept York off the scoreboard and batted 2-2 with an RBI to guide surging Poquoson (8-6 BRD) past York (10-4), which lost its sole possession of first place in the Bay Rivers District. The Falcons are now in a four-way tie atop the district standings with Lafayette, Warhill and New Kent.

Smithfield 6  Grafton 5

Grafton’s late rally came up short after Smithfield’s Eli Evans delivered a walk-off base hit in the bottom of the seventh inning to spoil the Clippers’ shot at forcing a five-team tie first place in the Bay Rivers District. Grafton dropped to 9-5 in the district with the loss. Spencer Brown (2-4) led the Clippers with a pair of RBI.

Tabb 11  Bruton 8

Matt Souther pitched five innings in addition to batting 2-3 with two RBI to lead Tabb past Bruton. Zack Calloway (2-4) and Jake Berrena (1-1) added a pair of RBI for the Tigers, who ended a three-game losing skid.

New Kent 11  Jamestown 0

New Kent, winners of seven out of its last eight games, kept pace with York, Lafayette and Warhill at 10-4 atop the Bay Rivers District standings by shutting out Jamestown 11-0 on the road.

Walsingham Academy 6  Peninsula Catholic 0

Thomas Chisam did a whole lot of everything Thursday to lead Walsingham past Peninsula Catholic on the road. In addition to going 3-4 at the plate with two runs, a double and two RBI, Chisam also tossed a complete-game no-hit shutout on the mound with 14 strikeouts for the Trojans, who improved to 4-4 with the victory.

SOFTBALL

Smithfield 3  Grafton 1

Smithfield rallied to score all three of its runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to edge Grafton 3-1 at home. Packers star pitcher Sydney Gay struck out nine batters and finished 2-3 with a run and two RBI as Smithfield improved to a Bay Rivers District-best 13-1. Jessica Sprouse (2-3) drove in one run to lead the Clippers (7-7 BRD).

York 4  Poquoson 1

Host York jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings and held on thanks to another strong pitching performance from freshman Molly Rogerson. Senior Maddie Rogerson went 2-2 at the plate with double, run and one RBI to lead the Falcons, who improved to 9-5 in the Bay Rivers District with the win.

New Kent 7  Jamestown 6

Jamestown’s late rally came up short as the Eagles fell at home to visiting New Kent 7-6. Virginia Tech bound Liz Henry (2-3) scored three runs to lead Jamestown  (3-12, 2-12 BRD).

BOYS SOCCER

Grafton 1  Jamestown 0

Aaron Kaye broke a scoreless tie with a goal in the final minutes of regulation to lift Grafton past Jamestown 1-0 on the road at Wanner Stadium. The win kept the Clippers (7-0-1 BRD) a half-game ahead of fellow unbeaten Lafayette (6-0-1 BRD)  atop the district standings with one game remaining next Thursday against York.

Lafayette 1  York 0

A strange first-half goal that deflected off the head of a York player and into the Falcons’ net proved to be the difference in Lafayette’s 1-0 win at York. Kamran Rahman was credited with the goal on an assist from Reeves Trott as the Rams kept pace with Grafton as the only two remaining unbeaten teams in the Bay Rivers District.

GIRLS SOCCER

Hampton Roads Academy 2 Greenbrier Christian Academy

Laura Killough’s second-half goal broke a scoreless tie as HRA improved to 4-5 in the Tidewater Conference after knocking off Greenbrier Christian on Thursday. Courtney Montgomery scored the Navigators’ other goal while Catie Slater and Bex Velloney provided the assists.

York 9  Lafayette 1

Kisa Reck and Jennifer Pandolf finished with hat tricks while Ashley Pandolf added two goals as York ran away from Lafayette on the road. The Falcons improved to 6-1 in the Bay Rivers District with the victory.

BOYS TENNIS
