BASEBALL

Lafayette 10  Smithfield 0

Lafayette continued its impressive start to the season with a 10-0 home shutout over Smithfield Wednesday. Sophomore Daniel Blankenship tossed five scoreless innings of two-hit ball to earn the win while Austin Cohn added three RBIs for the Rams (3-0), who joined York High as the last remaining unbeaten teams in the Bay Rivers District heading into Friday’s showdown with Grafton.

SOFTBALL

York 2  Jamestown 0

The finest outing of freshman Molly Rogerson’s young career came in the form of a complete game one-hit shutout as York held on for its third straight win to open the season. The Falcons (3-0) broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth inning after Julia Hare scored on a base hit by Destiny Martinez. Kayla Dianna (2-4) later scored on a Hannah Hautz RBI single. York will play at Smithfield (3-0) Friday in a matchup of undefeated Bay Rivers District teams.

Tabb 6  Poquoson 2

Tabb jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and held on to beat Poquoson 6-2 behind Kayla St. John, who pitched a complete game in addition to going 2-4 at the plate with a run scored.

Smithfield 10 Lafayette 0

 

GIRLS SOCCER

Jamestown 2  Great Bridge 0

Aaliyah Lyttle scored on an assist from Paige Majdic in each half as Jamestown’s girls soccer team, competing in the Maury Invitational in Powhatan, improved to 3-0 on the season with a 2-0 shutout of Great Bridge. Hannah Sams saved six shots in goal for the Eagles.

 

BOYS SOCCER

Nandua 5  Bruton 1

Hunter Embry scored the lone goal for Bruton in a 5-1 road loss to Nandua Wednesday. Anthony Addeo finished with eight saves for the Panthers, who dropped to 1-1 on the season.
