Lafayette’s boys and girls, as well as Jamestown and Tabb’s girls soccer teams all opened the 2013 season with victories this week.
Jamestown’s girls won the first game of a double-header at Wanner Stadium on Tuesday, shutting out Chancellor 3-0 before the Eagles’ defending Group AA state champion boys team fell 1-0 against Kellam.
All other games were played on Monday. Here are the results:
BOYS SOCCER
Kellam 1 Jamestown 0
Jamestown’s boys soccer team suffered a 1-0 setback in their season opener Tuesday night against AAA Kellam. Kellam scored off a set piece in the 39th minute and held on for the shutout. The Eagles finished with seven shots while goalkeeper Tim Slade finished with three saves.
Jamestown will face another tough early season test Thursday when they take on AAA powerhouse Cox at Wanner Stadium.
Lafayette 6 Lakeland 0 (From Monday)
Six different players scored as Lafayette built a 5-0 halftime lead and cruised to a season-opening 6-0 win Monday. Calvin Mitchell scored one goal and added two assists and Jason Eckenrode tallied a goal and an assist apiece to lead the Rams. Emery Trott, Connor Tsigaridas, David Lees and Josh Aman also scored for Lafayette.
GIRLS SOCCER
Jamestown 3 Chancellor 0
Aaliyah Lyttle scored one goal and assisted two more as Jamestown earned a 3-0 season opening victory over Chancellor Tuesday night. Morgan Connell and Paige Majdic also scored for the Eagles while goalkeeper Hannah Sams saved three shots.
Lafayette 2 Lakeland 0 (From Monday)
Alicia Lee scored two goals and Grace Maccomber finished with one assist as Lafayette blanked Lakeland 2-0 in the Rams’ season opener.
Tabb 3 Menchville 1 (From Monday)
Leanna Baez, Katie Herold and Leah Tyson each scored and Macy Peebles added two assists as Tabb jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead and held on to beat Menchville.
