Community Events: Learn How to Play Disc Golf; Inaugural Jiu-Jitsu Tournament This Weekend

Anyone interested in learning about disc golf, one of the fastest-growing sports since the early 2000s, should head to New Quarter Park in Williamsburg this Saturday for a special session from 10 a.m. to noon hosted by York County Parks and Recreation.

The 18-hole disc golf course at New Quarter Park has a park supplies office on-site where players can pick up equipment to participate.

Park professionals will be on-site to answer questions and offer instructional tips while you try your hand at the game, which combines the concept of disc throwing with the hole-by-hole stroke format of golf.

Call York County Parks and Recreation at 890-3513 or 890-5840 or click here to visit its website.

Bushin Martial Arts Academy/Norfolk Martial Arts Academy Jiu-Jitsu Tournament

Bushin Martial Arts Academy of Williamsburg and Norfolk Martial Arts Academy will host their inaugural in-house Jiu-jitsu tournament Saturday at the BMAA located on Merrimac Trail in Williamsburg.

The BMAA and NMAA are two of only four certified training centers in the state that offer training programs of the renown Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy, a worldwide organization that upholds the practices of famed Brazilian martial artist Grand Master Helio Gracie, creator of the martial art known as Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.

The in-house tournament, which begins at 10 a.m., is open only to certified training center members who have been approved by their respective head CTC instructor. Participants will be asked to pay a $5 admission fee at the door.

Visit Bushin Academy’s website here, or call (757) 253-2622 for more information. Click here to read more on Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy.

From the tournament staff: “The main purpose for holding this tournament is to build the family spirit amongst the CTC’s and their students, and to allow all involved to gain the most valuable experiences possible in a completely safe, ego-free environment. For those of you who have limited sparring/tournament experience, this is the perfect time and place for you to learn and to gain some of that experience! So, we invite you all to come to meet your fellow CTC family members, relax, learn, enjoy, and have a great time at what will hopefully be an annual event!”
