HRA Boys, Walsingham Girls Fall in VISAA State Tourney Openers

Hampton Roads Academy’s boys and Walsingham’s girls each saw their seasons end Tuesday night in the opening round of the Virginia Independent Schools Division II state basketball tournament.

On the road at No. 8 Fredericksburg Christian, No. 9 HRA fell behind 34-15 at halftime after being outscored 21-4 in the second period en route to a 52-37 loss.

DeLante Victory scored 13 of his game-high 20 points in the first half to lead Fredericksburg Christian, while Quincy Mock paced the Navigators with eight.

Walsingham’s girls also fell behind early against a tough opponent on the road. The No. 11 Trojans trailed No. 6 Highland School 15-0 after being held scoreless in the opening period before eventually losing 49-38.

It was a bittersweet end to the season for Walsingham, which reached the VIS state tournament for this first time in four seasons under the direction of first-year coach Donovan Bridgeforth.
