After leading their teams to Region I basketball titles last week, Grafton standouts Elijah Moore and Olivia Wilson have been voted the Division 4 boys and girls Players of the Years.
Moore, a 6-foot-7 senior forward who guided Grafton’s boys team to repeated Bay Rivers District and Region I titles this season, averaged 26 points and close to 10 rebounds during the Clippers’ three regional-tournament victories over Spotsylvania, Tabb and Chancellor.
Wilson was equally as dominant during the Clippers’ three-game sweep of regionals, averaging 21 points and 11 rebounds as Grafton’s girls avenged last year’s loss to Courtland in the regional final to beat the Cougars 57-49 in this season’s D4 championship.
Tabb’s Kaleb Mitchell was the only other boys player from the Bay Rivers to join Moore on the all-region Division 4 first team. Grafton point guard Tyler McMillan earned second team honors in D4 while Bruton’s Marcus Carter and Lafayette’s John Fitchett were named to the Division 3 second team. Brunswick’s Brandon Stith repeated as D3 Player of the Year.
On the girls’ side, Wilson was joined by teammate Hannah Olson on the Division 4 first team with teammate Emily Beyer receiving an honorable mention. Poquoson’s Sydney Turner (D3) and Smithfield’s Jackie Jordan (D4) were voted to the all-region second team, while Jamestown’s Aaliyah Lyttle and Tabb’s Brooke Mahan earned honorable mentions in Division 4.
Grafton boys coach Jeremy Jordan and girls coach Tommy Bayse were also named the Region I Division 4 Coaches of the Year.
