Following a strong showing at the competitive Ronald Curry/Boo Williams Christmas Classic over the holidays, which has since culminated into a five-game winning streak, Williamsburg Christian Academy’s girls basketball team is ranked No. 1 in the latest VISAA Division II state poll released this week.
The Eagles (12-4, 5-0 Metro Conference), who captured the Division III state championship last season, are competing in their first season in Division II. They had previously been ranked No. 2 behind Miller School in the first two polls of the season released by the VISAA.
Hampton Roads Academy also climbed to fourth in Division II. The Navigators (8-2, 0-1 TCIS) later suffered a 51-41 setback in their opened Tidewater Conference opener Wednesday night against Nansemond Suffolk.

Walsingham (7-1), which opens TCIS play next week against rival HRA, sits at eighth in Division II. The top eight ranked teams in each Division at the end of the season earn state-tournament berths.
In the first boys’ state poll released by the VISAA this year, Walsingham is ranked No. 2 behind Virginia Episcopal.
The Trojans are 13-2 on the season and play StoneBridge next Monday, January 14, before opening conference play against HRA on Friday.
HRA’s boys begin the year ranked eighth after an 9-3 start to the season. The Navigators (9-3, 1-0 TCIS) blew out Nansemond Suffolk 72-32 Wednesday night in their Tidewater Conference opener.
