William and Mary’s Wesley Drew ’10 made history over the weekend, helping the U.S. national indoor field hockey team to its first-ever international gold medal.

With Drew running the center midfield, Team USA won four out of five matches at the 33rd Rohrmax Cup in Vienna, Austria, including a 3-2 victory over Slavia Prag in the championship match.

The American side opened the tournament with three straight wins in pool play, beginning with a 6-1 victory over the Austrian national U21 team.  The second triumph came 4-2 against Rot-Weiss Wettingen, a Swedish club, and was followed by a 4-1 win over SV Arminen, the host team.  That win assured the U.S. a spot in the championship match, which would be a rematch with its fourth opponent, Slavia Prag (a club team from Prague, in the Czech Republic).  The Czechs won the first match, 6-1, but the Americans rebounded with the win in the championship.
