Below are brief recaps from Thursday’s Bay Rivers District and Tidewater Conference volleyball semifinals.
Bay Rivers District
Semifinals
#1 Jamestown def. #4 York 25-13, 25-21, 25-13
Briana Sutton finished with 16 kills and 7 aces, Kelly Esch added 11 kills and 10 digs and Monique St. Cyr tallied 28 assists and 7 aces as the top-seeded Eagles swept York at home Thursday for a spot in the Bay Rivers tournament championship on Saturday. Jamestown, which will be the number one seed in next week’s Region I tournament, improved to 23-2 on the season.
#3 New Kent def. #2 Grafton 12-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-21
Karley Allen’s 19 kills, 16 digs and 4 blocks carried New Kent as they upset No. 2 Grafton in four games Thursday. The Trojans take over as the Bay Rivers’ No. 2 seed heading in next week’s region tournament while the Clippers will represent the Bay Rivers’ No. 3. Ashley Lind led Grafton with 13 kills and 14 digs. Kendal Mahoney chipped in with 17 kills.

Semifinals
Hampton Roads Academy def. Cape Henry 25-12, 25-22, 25-21
HRA’s historic season continued after the Navigators knocked off three-time defending Tidewater Conference and state champion Cape Henry in the TCIS semifinals Thursday. Laura Killough (18 digs), Lauren Yevak (6 kills, 8 digs), Leanna Yevak (38 assists), Bri Underwood (15 kills, 6 digs) and Rachel Schell (9 kills) were the standouts for HRA (20-2), which will play in the first tournament championship game in program history on Saturday. The Navigators will face Norfolk Academy, which upset co regular-season champ Nansemond Suffolk Thursday, in the final.
Additionally, Killough and Underwood were recently named to the all-TCIS first team which was released this week.
