Two players on Walsingham’s field hockey team have earned high honors on the all-Tidewater Conference teams released this week.
Seniors Micayla Gallacio-Rowe, the Trojans’ standout forward, and goalkeeper Emily Jackson each were named to the all-TCIS first team after guiding the Trojans to a 2-3 conference record during the regular season.
Gallacio Rowe was responsible for nearly half of Walsingham’s points (19) this season while leading the Trojans in goals (10) and assists (3). Jackson made 276 saves in 15 games this season – an average of nearly 20 stops per game – while posting one shutout in a 2-0 victory against Norfolk Collegiate.
“Emily [Jackson] is a committed athlete with an intense work ethic and passion for the game,” Walsingham coach Brittany Paye said in an email. “Her drive to succeed is above and beyond what a coach expects and her attitude is positive and refreshing whether we’re winning or losing. She is an athlete that every coach hopes to have on their team.”
Added Paye of Gallacio-Rowe, “Micayla is a smooth player who has worked hard at advancing her skills to reach a new level. Her experience playing at the varsity level has helped to teach the younger girls how to play with poise and confidence. She is passionate about the game and committed to her team.”
Walsingham’s season ended Wednesday night with a loss to Bishop Sullivan in the quarterfinals of the TCIS tournament.
