The Score: Wednesday’s Volleyball, Girls Tennis and Field Hockey Highlights

Grafton’s volleyball team rallies from 2-0 deficit to spoil Tabb’s upset bid, HRA girls tennis improves to 5-0, and more.

Girls Volleyball

Grafton def. Tabb 24-26, 18-25,  25-14, 29-27, 16-14

Coming off a disappointing 3-0 loss to Warhill, Grafton coach Dena Montini said she was pleased with how her team responded in a 3-2 come-from-behind victory against Tabb at home. The Clippers, led by Ashley Lind’s 23 kills and Christa Hall’s 40 assists, rallied to win three-straight sets after dropping the first two.

Grafton returns to the court tonight (Thursday) for a showdown with Jamestown on the road. Montini said her team’s serve-receive will be key against the first-place Eagles.

As for how Jamestown fared Wednesday night…

Jamestown def. Lafayette 23-25, 25-9, 25-13, 25-19

Jamestown overcame an opening-game defeat to win three-straight sets and win on their arch-rival Rams’ home floor. With the victory, the Eagles improved to 11-1 overall and a Bay Rivers best 7-0 on the year. Kelly Esch led the way for Jamestown with 19 kills and 16 digs. Grace Nowadly paced Lafayette with 6 kills, 8 assists and 7 digs.

 

Girls Tennis

Hampton Roads Academy 7   Norfolk Academy 2

In a continuation match from two weeks ago (lightning), HRA improved to 5-0 on the season with a 7-2 win over TCIS foe Norfolk Academy.

Field Hockey

York 8  Smithfield 0

The Falcons cruised to an 8-0 road victory over Smithfield thanks to Leah Reichle’s hat trick and two goals apiece from Mackenzie Zabicki and Alexa Weaver. York bumped its record to 8-1 (3-1 Bay Rivers) on the season with the win.
